Greenville, Illinois Events & Attractions

  Greenville features a number of attractions that are of interest to all. The Southwestern Illinois Tourism Guide, says that when you visit Greenville, you will, "discover a surprising mix of sophisticated art, higher education and rural tranquility. Here, the simpler pace of an earlier time is preserved, allowing leisurely exploration of museums and historical buildings within a pastoral setting."

   Greenville has many wonderful things for people to see and do. Our historic downtown is part of the National Main Street program. Many of the buildings have been restored to their original luster and feature many unique shops.

   Greenville also offers the work of the sculptor Richard Bock, who gained
fame as an associate of the 20th century architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The
Richard Bock Museum, housed in the Almira College House located on the
campus of Greenville College, includes a collection of sculptures by Bock;
and architectural drawings and a stained glass window and lamp designed by
Wright.

  Greenville offers a unique walking tour of the community. On the tour you will see Almira College, a stopping point for the underground railroad, the site of Greenville's first (and only) hanging, the location of our first "lending library" and much more. We invite you to spend a weekend with us, and you just might decide to spend a lifetime! For more information, or to request a walking tour brochure, contact the Chamber of Commerce.
