Our church has approximately 60 members with an average worship attendance of 35. Sunday School has an adult class with average attendance of six and a primary class of four. We are a congregation with a good balance between children and youth, young adults, and older adults who are looking for a pastor who will help us continue and improve our programs of Christian education, our stewardship, and our outreach to the community and to the wider church. We are a "healthy" congregation with a history of getting along well with our pastors.
Overview of pastoral duties would include preparing worship service and sermon, communication and coordinating with church musicians, and being responsible for typing and photocopying the bulletin.
The pastor will be expected to provide leadership for Christian education. This includes teaching confirmation about once every other year, providing leadership for the youth group, teaching Sunday School as needed, developing and implementing "Summer Fun", a mid-week Bible School event during the summer months, and identifying resources for a Christmas program.
Visiting and praying for people in the hospital/nursing home, bringing communion to members in nursing home/homebound, presiding at funerals, and offering pre-marital counseling and presiding at weddings will also be expected of our next pastor.
Other duties would include attending (and sometimes coordinating) fellowship activities, attending monthly council meetings, coordinating church participation in community outreach, special offerings and encouraging involvement in Illinois South Conference and its affiliated agencies.
This should be considered a half-time position (25 hours per week) with occasional weeks (Advent, Lent, and the beginning of Summer Fun) where the hours will be more.
Salary offered for part-time minister is negotiable and includes a housing allowance. If we hire someone who will just be Sunday supply, salary will be less. The person hired may live in the parsonage or in a community of his/her choice.
The church is located in a rural setting in the town of Hookdale which is approximately eight miles southeast of Greenville, Illinois. Greenville is located 45 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri.
The church is brick with handicap access to main sanctuary by a ramp completed a few years ago. Seating for approximately 100. It has a full basement which is utilized for Sunday School and fellowship use.
Also available for the pastor's use is a three bedroom brick parsonage with full basement and attached garage. Also a 30x36 garage is available for use by the church and pastor.
